ANIMALS STARTING WITH LETTER t

1540 species

We collected more than 1300 animals beginning with the letter T.

You probably expect to find a Tapir in this list, but it is not here because we use species names rather than a group or common names. The term “tapir” refers to large mammals from the family Tapiridae. There are four widely recognized extant species of tapir: the Baird’s tapir, the South American tapir, the Mountain tapir, and the Malayan tapir. None of these species is included in this list as their common English names don’t start with the letter “T”.

For the same reason a Turkey is not in this list as well. The term “turkey” refers to birds in the genus Meleagris. There are two extant turkey species: the Wild turkey and the Ocellated turkey. There is also a well known Domestic turkey which is a subspecies of the Wild turkey. The common names of all three species don’t start with the letter “T” and thus can’t be found here.

Additionally, there are 7 more animals that have the term “turkey” as a part of their common English name. They are the Turkey vulture and six species of bruchturkeys: the Australian brushturkey, the Wattled brushturkey, the Waigeo brushturkey, the Red-billed brushturkey, the Black-billed brushturkey, and the Collared brushturkey. The term “turkey” as a part of their name originates from some resemblance to turkey.

It can be tricky sometimes so we made a list of popular animal names starting with the letter “T”. Here it is: Tamarin, Thorny Devil, Tanager, Tree Kangaroo, Tapir, Tiger, Tawny Frogmouth, Turkey, Tarsier, Tiger Rattlesnake, Takin, Toad.
