Polygamy is the practice of breeding with multiple partners. When a male breeds with more than one female at the same time – it is called polygyny. In sociobiology and zoology, researchers use polygamy in a broad sense to mean any form of multiple mating. Polygamy exists in three specific forms: polygyny, where a male breeds with multiple females; polyandry, where a female breeds with multiple males; and polygynandry - another form of a multi-male and multi-female polygamous mating system.
