Origin

The history of the appearance of Biewer Yorkies dogs is very interesting, because representatives of this breed were bred by accident. In 1984, a pair of purebred Yorkshire terriers had a pair of unusually white puppies with spots of color. The reason for the appearance of such puppies is unknown. A family couple with the surname Beaver was fascinated by these puppies, so they started breeding a completely new breed. As you can see today, their efforts have been completely successful. Their first name was a Biewer Yorkies terrier a la pom pom. This name appeared because of a German singer, who called them that at the first meeting, which translates to "ballofwool”.

Temperament

It should be remembered that dogs of the Biewer Yorkies breed are bred exclusively as companions, so if you are looking for a dog for other purposes, it is better to consider other options. These dogs will always be faithful and sincere friends for you, who will not leave you alone for a minute. They happily accept children, especially those who will play with them, but before introducing them, it is important to teach the child how to behave with a dog, because due to their miniature size, they can easily be harmed. Biewer Yorkies treat strangers calmly, sometimes they can scold, but not for long.

Training

These little dogs are actually easy to train, and if trained, they can even go to the litter box like cats. If you want to teach these dogs something, then you always have to start from the base (ugh, lie down, sit, to me), they don't need heavy loads, so you can stop there. Biewer Yorkies perfectly understand intonations, so if you shout or show aggression, the dogs may shut down and stop contacting you. Remember that with every training you should be calm and self-confident, then all your efforts will be successful.

The diet of these little dogs must consist of meat (beef, rabbit, turkey). You can add buckwheat, rice, or wheat porridge to the meat. it is useful to give them sea fish, completely cleaned of bones. The percentage of non-meat food should be 20-30%. Remember to keep the water bowl full and within easy reach of the dog. Add special useful vitamins and supplements to food. But it's best to discuss your dog's diet with the vet, especially if you want to feed it food.
These little dogs require a lot of care, especially their fur, which needs to be brushed every day, bathed once or twice a week, blow-dried, and combed after bathing. Their claws do not wear off on their own, so they need to be trimmed often, once a week. It is also necessary to clean the ears often, several times a week with a special lotion, after which dry the ears with a cotton pad. These dogs do not have an undercoat, so in the cold season they should be insulated, and in the warm season, they should be cut shorter (if the dog does not participate in exhibitions). Remember that the dog's health completely depends on its hygiene.
Grooming intencity:
Requires lots of grooming
Representatives of this breed can have some diseases, unfortunately, their list is not small:
  • Dislocation of the patella
  • Violation of teeth change
  • Distichiasis
  • Cryptorchidism
  • Osteochondropathy of the femoral head. It is a violation of blood circulation in the hip joint, which can lead to atrophy of the femoral head
Remember that if you take good care of your dog and its hygiene, then visits to the vet will be minimal.
