Origin

Dogs of this breed were not native to India but were only brought there in the 19th century by the hands of the ruling British. The ancestors of representatives of this breed are considered to be the European German Spitz. Already in India, they began to breed the dogs we know in a targeted manner to create a hardy dog that would be able to adapt to the scorching heat of India. In 1980-1990, Indian Spitz reached the peak of their popularity, but just as quickly this popularity passed due to the limitations of India. Therefore, even now it is rare to see representatives of this breed, except in India itself, where these dogs are very popular.

Temperament

Dogs of this breed have a very friendly and social character. Indian Spitz are ready to make friends with everyone they see, so you should not hesitate to bring these dogs into your family. After all, Indian Spitz get along well with all family members, including even small children. Because of such sincerity and friendliness, you are unlikely to be able to use them as watchdogs, so if you are looking for a dog for these purposes, it is better to look at other breeds. Also, Indian Spitz relate very well to other pets, it can be another dog or even a cat, especially under the conditions, that you introduce them to each other from an early age. You should not get these dogs if you do not have the opportunity to always be around, because Indian Spitz will miss the cheerful company of people very much.

This is a small, active breed of dog that needs a high-quality diet for these characteristics. In no case do not overfeed your pet and do not give Indian Spitz more than the norm, because obesity can develop other health problems. If you are not sure that you will be able to develop a high-quality diet for your Indian Spitzs, it is better to seek the services of a veterinarian, who will tell you which products in which quantities are better to use, as well as a vitamin-mineral complex. Always make sure that the Indian Spitz has water, especially in the hot season.
Dogs of the Indian Spitz breed need regular brushing to keep their long coats in good condition. Their bath schedules can range from twice a month to once a month since their fur can easily dry out if bathed too often. Shedding is a problem with Indian Spitz as they get rid of their thick winter coat in the warmer months. Their coats are double-layered, so proper grooming requires a double-row brush to reach the undercoat. Being a dog with a double-layered coat, it is advised not to shave a matted Indian Spitz, as it can result in patchy hair growth. It is also necessary to clean the dog's eyes from mucous secretions daily, and also clean the ears at least several times a week with a special lotion. Do not forget to cut the dog's claws and brush the Indian Spitz teeth several times a month with a special paste or treats (you can ask a veterinarian for advice on this).

  • Hip dysplasia.
  • Dislocation of the patella.
  • Problems related to the eyes. This can lead to vision loss.
  • Skin allergies. Always take care of your pet and feed it every time after a walk. Also, do not forget to regularly visit the veterinarian for preventive examinations.
