These dogs have a fairly recognizable appearance. Jagdterriers have a strong muscular body. The legs are of medium length, but the hind legs are slightly longer than the front ones. With a well-defined thorax, the head looks harmonious against the background of the whole body. The muzzle is slightly elongated, with small, dark, almond-shaped eyes. Jagdterrier's ears are triangular, not very wide, and should hang halfway forward. The tail is thick but short. The fur of representatives of this breed can be both long and somewhat wavy, forming a beard on the face, and short and smooth. The color always contains black in combination with brown, chocolate, fawn, or grey, and pure black is also possible.

Origin
These dogs arose after the First World War, when a group of breeders named Rudolf Frei, Carl Erich Grunvalwald, and Walter Zengenberg decided to create a breed that would be suitable exclusively for hunting. However, their plans were more to restore the breed that already existed in the 18th century. The director of the Berlin Zoo supported their idea and he gave them two black and two red terriers, which were pure fox terriers. It took several years to restore the Jagdterrier, but soon they became popular and in 1926 the first German club of lovers of the Deutscher Jagdterrier breed was created.
Temperament
Even their appearance shows that Deutscher Jagdterriers are very active dogs with a lively character. Therefore, especially if you started them in an apartment, you will need to spend a lot of time outside walking them. In the family circle, they behave very well and are friendly, even children are well received, without conflicts. As with other pets, it is better to introduce them to cats from an early age, because there may be conflicts in the future. Deutscher Jagdterrier treats strangers normally, so they are not suitable for guarding. Also, prepare for the fact that you will have to face their stubbornness.

Training
Dogs of this breed are hunters, so if you are not going to buy a Deutscher Jagdterrier for hunting, you should give them daily mental and physical stress (in moderation, of course). From an early age, they must be socialized and taught basic commands, gradually moving to more complex ones. From the first days, he will teach the dog discipline and compliance with the rules in the house. But in no case do not use aggressive methods.

Common health issues
Dogs of this breed are very active and need appropriate nutrition, which will contain all the necessary trace elements. Therefore, be sure to balance the content of protein, carbohydrates, and other minerals in your pet's diet. If you know that you do not understand this, it is better to consult a veterinarian. If you want to feed your Deutscher Jagdterrier with dry food, it must be of high quality, and the natural diet should contain a lot of meat. Be sure to ensure that the Jagdterrier has water, especially in the hot season.
Dogs of this breed do not require complex or capricious care, especially for their coat. It is enough to only brush it once a week with a suitable brush (judging by the type of dog's hair). Also, if the dog's fur is long, be sure to check it for parasites. Bathing is also not necessary often, only once or twice a week. Trim Deutscher Jagdterrier claws every 10 days, and clean their eyes daily with a wet cotton pad. Ears should be wiped several times a week with a special lotion, and also inspected after each walk for irritation or parasites.
Grooming intencity:
Easy to groom
Deutscher Jagdterriers are very hardy and differ from others in having a strong enough immunity, so it is unlikely that you will have to visit a veterinarian with them, of course, apart from preventive visits and vaccinations, this is mandatory. But if you can get a dog in the right conditions, Deutscher Jagdterrier will not get sick.
