Rocky habitats are surface areas dominated by exposed rock, such as mountain peaks, inland cliffs, crags, scree and boulder fields, buttes and rocky outcrops. Features common to all these habitats are the lack of soil and exposure to the wind and rain. Rocky habitats are mostly found in the uplands wherever the underlying rock reaches the surface.
