Origin

The history of the Himalayan breed dates back to the 1930s in North America, where breeders undertook rigorous efforts to create a Persian cat with Siamese markings. This endeavor led to the emergence of the Himalayan, essentially a color-pointed Persian. While experimenting to introduce chocolate and lilac points in the breed, breeders stumbled upon a surprising find: some cats displayed solid chocolate and lilac colors, leading to the creation of the Kashmir breed. Despite being adored by many, the Kashmir faced strong opposition from some quarters. Consequently, it has remained largely unrecognized by prominent cat organizations, with the Canadian Cat Association being one of the few to extend formal recognition. The quest for acknowledgment from other major associations continues for the unique and distinctive Kashmir breed.
