Origin

The first mentions of cats with curly hair living in the Ural villages and towns date back to the pre-war and wartime periods. After the war, their numbers significantly decreased, and they were thought to be extinct for a long time. However, some information from the 1960s suggests that they may have persisted in small numbers. The founder of the breed, known as the 'Ural Rex,' was a curly cat named Vasily, born in the city of Zarechny in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia in 1988. All currently registered Ural Rexes from renowned catteries can trace their lineage back to Vasily and his curly descendants. The breed received its first official recognition by the world system in 2006 through the WCF.

The Ural Rex is not very picky about food, but it does not tolerate a mixed diet consisting of professional cat food and natural food at the same time. It is preferable to feed this breed either natural products or replace them with high-quality cat food. Sometimes breeders feed their Ural Rex cats with a combination of both of these options of nutrition. This can be done only by alternating separately feeding with one or another type of food. For example, in the first week, you can feed your cat with natural food, and in the second week, you can give cat food. It is also very important that the water in the bowl of your cat is always clean and should be changed at least twice a day.
Ural Rex cats take around 3 years to become reproductively mature. Females usually give birth to litters of 2-4 kittens and are known to be caring mothers.

The maintenance of the Ural Rex does not take too much time. It is enough to regularly and carefully brush its coat with a special comb with rounded tips; however, during the shedding period, trimming may be required. The coat of a weakened or sick Ural Rex may wear out. In addition to brushing, it is important to regularly clean your cat's ears, trim its nails, and brush its teeth as often as possible to avoid periodontal disease.
