Californian Rex

The Californian Rex was initially bred in the US during the 1960s, emerging as a long-haired counterpart to the Cornish Rex. Despite its unique characteristics, several feline associations did not acknowledge the Californian as a separate breed, but rather classified it as a distinct variation of the same breed. This classification has contributed to the continued obscurity and rarity of these cats, with them remaining relatively unknown even today.

Appearance

The Californian Rex is an exquisitely athletic and elegant cat known for its distinctive appearance. This breed is characterized by its middle-long fur, which is incredibly soft to the touch and adorned with wave-shaped locks. Their vibrissae, or whiskers, are long and exceptionally plush. The luxurious fur consists of guard hair with a downy structure and an undercoat, which creates a velvety texture. Notably, the fur is shorter and denser on the legs and the head, adding to the breed's unique charm. Californian Rex cats come in a diverse range of colors and patterns, making each one unique in its own right.
