European cat snakes are solitary creatures. They are at home both in trees and on the ground and hunt by night having for that a distinct head and large eyes.
These are carnivorous snakes that feed mainly on geckos and lizards.
European cat snakes are oviparous and females lay around 5 to 9 eggs. The snakelets hatch fully developed and are able to live on their own.
European cat snakes are not threatened at present but they suffer from habitat loss, persecution, and road mortality.
The IUCN Red List and other sources don’t provide the number of the European cat snake total population size. Currently, this species is classified as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List.
