We collected more than 570 animals beginning with the letter F.
You could expect to find a Fox in this list, but it is not here because we use species names rather than a group or common names. For example, "foxes" is a group name for small to medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. There are approximately 37 species that are always or sometimes called "foxes". And there is only one among them whose name starts with the letter F. It is Fennec fox.
For the same reason, you wouldn't find a Falcon here as well, except for the Fox Kestrel, a bird of prey belonging to the Falcon family Falconidae. There are more than 40 species of birds in this family, and ironically only the one with a “Fox” in the name represents falcons in this list.
Besides Fox Kestrel, there are 7 more animals whose species name starts with “Fox”. They are Fox sparrow, Foxy lark, Fox's weaver, Foxy cisticola, Fox's mountain meadow snake, Fox's shaggy rat, and Fox's shrew. The fox part of the name originates either from some resemblance to foxes or zoologists' names who discovered them.
Flamingos don't resemble foxes at all. And since only five flamingo species exist, the chances of being discovered by a zoologist with “Fox” surname were almost zero. So, all flamingo species names are starting with different letters than the F. They are A for American Flamingo and Andean Flamingo, C for Chilean Flamingo, G for Greater Flamingo, J for James's Flamingo, and L for Lesser Flamingo.
All this could sound abstruse, and for that reason, we collected a list of popular animal names beginning with the F letter. Here it is – Frog, Fox, Fossa, Ferret, Flamingo, Fly, Falcon, Finch, Fowl, Flounder, Fisher, Ferret, Flycatcher, Frigatebird, Fruit Bat, Fur Seal.
